El Nino Strikes Again...and Again...and Again

I could let anymore time go by without talking about the weather in the past month or two. We had quite a bit of snow in February. It was a bit unusual for this part of the state - but I guess that's what you get in an El Nino year. Plus, most of the storms this winter hit Philadelphia, Trenton, Newark, etc. much harder than here. In mid February, we had quite the storm, though. The Lehigh Valley got probably about 18-24 inches - which is a considerable amount for here. As I've mentioned many times before, I'm from lake effect snow country in NY, so it takes quite a bit of snow to phase me. This storm actually did impress me. Check out the photos I took outside of my house the day after:

(that pile of snow is as tall as the cars immediately behind it)

Because we were forecasted to receive so much, and because of the timing of it all, we had to close the university for a day. I was incredibly jealous that I couldn't make it to campus, though, because the students organized a snowball fight which ~200-300 attended. Check out a great story about the first snow day since 2003 (my senior year) from Lehigh's newspaper, The Brown and White, that includes video and photos. The YouTube video of what the students were up to is classic.

Just as quickly as all of that snow came, the weather changed. It has been absolutely beautiful here - temperatures jump up to the 60s and low 70s last week and throughout the weekend. Blossoms have started to pop out on the trees. This is the best time of year here - in my opinion. I love the look of campus in the spring, coming back to life, and exciting the community - I'm sure many of the tours in the past week have seen studying, playing frisbee, and just plain relaxing on the UC Front Lawn - quite the sight.

I hope you're able to see campus in the next few weeks and share in my joy. Back to planning my April travel to NM, AZ, and MO. Have a great day!
